Home Inspections

House

When purchasing a new home, a very important element, often required by the mortgage firm, is having a Wood Destroying Insect Inspection, commonly referred to as the "Termite" Inspection.

A Wood Destroying Insect Inspection should be performed by a Pest Control Technician who holds a Wood Destroying Insect Supervisory License (S#) from the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Pesticide Management Division.

A typical "Termite" inspection costs between $60 to $100 plus CT State Sales Tax. Extermination fees, if treatment is required, are based on each individual structure and type of pest infestation. Since under usual protocol the seller assumes responsibility for treatment, the cost of pre-purchase inspection by a licensed Pest Control Technician is relatively inexpensive insurance.

On the home buyer's calendar, the termite inspection appointed should be scheduled as soon as his purchase offer has been accepted and/or the initial mortgage approval granted.

The Wood Destroying Insect Inspection evaluates a property to determine if termites, carpenter ants, powder post beetles, carpenter bees, and other less common wood destroying insects exist at the time of inspection. The licensed Pest Control Technician thoroughly examines all readily accessible areas of the exterior and interior. Careful observation is made of all wood construction searching for evidence of termite tubes or other wood destroying insect damage.

The inspection does not evaluate or report on the building's structural integrity. Evaluating structural integrity is the role of a qualified building engineer.

Upon completion of the inspection the licensed Pest Control Technician provides the purchaser with an industry standard Wood Destroying Insect Inspection Report form. This standard report is acceptable for conventional, FHA, VA, and CHFA mortgages. It identifies the property inspected, states the findings of the inspection, and notes treatment recommendations. During the mortgage evaluation period, the mortgage firm will request a copy of this report.

A.C. Exterminating Company L.L.C. recommends promptly calling your licensed Pest Control Technician to schedule a Wood Destroying Home Inspection on your intended property purchase.

IPM - Integrated Pest Management

Ipm_3   What is IPM ? IPM stands for Integrated Pest Management. Quite simply, it is understanding the biology of pests and applying common-sense methods to avoiding pests rather than depending on a chemical application.

We all understand that to loose weight we need to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Well IPM is recognizing the fact that bugs are attracted to moist wood; therefore, one should avoid storing cut firewood up against their home.

Or bugs will be attracted to food, so we don't leave an uncovered plate of left over donuts overnight in the break room.

In all honesty, IPM is not an exterminator's best friend, as if the tips are practiced it reduces the likely hood that you will need to call for our services.

Pet owner's Tick and Flea Prevention

Petey

The best preventative measure a pet owner can take against a tick or flea infestation is to treat your pet with Frontline or a similar veterinarian recommended product.

Spend your money protecting your pet rather than calling me. But if you do end up with an infestation I can help eliminate the problem.
